Keep Your Modem & Save

Already own a compatible DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem? You may be able to use it with NetJOI Internet and save $5/month.

Switching Internet providers shouldn’t mean replacing perfectly good equipment. Many customers already own compatible cable modems from a previous provider and don’t realize they may be able to keep using them with NetJOI.

If your modem is compatible, using your own equipment can lower your monthly bill, reduce equipment waste, and may help speed up activation by removing the need to wait for a modem shipment.

NetJOI gives customers flexible equipment options. You can use your own compatible modem, or choose one of our managed Wi‑Fi modem options if you prefer a simpler supported setup.

Why Customers Love Keeping Their Modem

Keeping your modem can make switching providers feel less disruptive. You keep equipment you already understand, avoid unnecessary rental hardware, and may be able to get activated faster.

  • Save $5/month with compatible equipment
  • Avoid waiting for equipment shipment
  • Make switching providers simpler
  • Keep the setup you already know
  • Reduce unnecessary equipment waste
  • Keep advanced router, mesh, or gaming setups

Modem ≠ Router

Modem vs Router vs Mesh System

This is one of the most common areas of confusion when switching Internet providers.

A modem — short for modulator-demodulator — is the device that connects your home to the cable Internet network. In simple terms, it translates the DOCSIS cable signal from the provider’s network into a standard Internet connection your home can use through Ethernet or Wi‑Fi.

A router or mesh system distributes that Internet connection throughout your home. It helps connect phones, laptops, TVs, gaming consoles, and smart devices, but it usually does not connect directly to the cable provider’s network on its own.

Some devices combine both functions into one unit, which is why checking the exact make and model number matters.

Send us the make/model number or a photo of the label on the device and we’ll help identify it.

What NetJOI Supports When You Use Your Own Modem

NetJOI’s role is to get Internet service working to the modem.

If you use your own router, mesh system, Wi-Fi setup, smart home devices, or internal networking equipment, we’ll do our best to help where we can, but troubleshooting beyond the modem is outside the standard support scope.

Customers who prefer a simpler support experience may prefer one of NetJOI’s managed Wi-Fi modem options instead.

Already Using a NetJOI Modem? You Can Switch Later

Customers are not locked into renting equipment forever.

If your service is already active using a NetJOI modem and you later purchase a compatible modem of your own, contact us and we can review compatibility and switch the service over.

Once your compatible modem is activated, the NetJOI modem can be returned to stop future equipment rental charges.
